Project Evader VSM-ST Results

The Place
In order to have enough room to let the DTX 18 engine wind out I chose to head out to the industrial area of east london, here I found a perfect spot to do some high speed passes without hitting any parked cars (or people).

The Results
I did some fine tuning in order to get optimal performance.Although I could have leaned it out alot,I chose to keep the settings realistic.I want to prove how fast the truck will go,not how quickly I can overheat and destroy the engine.I ran an initial test run and got 46km/h (28 mph).

I took a temperature reading after the first run and found the engine to be a little too cool (170F),so I did some more tuning to bring the temp up some more. After a few short test runs I decided to go for a couple more high speed passes. The speed went up some more from the last run,but not as much as I was hoping.Hearing alot of people saying how an evader can probably go over 40 mph got me hyped up and a little over optimistic,so I was somewhat dissapointed to see that it maxed out at 50 kmh ( 31.2 mph).

The Conclusion

Well,I guess I learned today that you gotta take everything with a grain of salt, just cuz someone says "it probably goes about this fast" doesn't mean that it actually will.I was just as surprised as many of you probably are,I was expecting alot more than 31 mph from this truck but as they say "the proof is in the pudding".I'm aware with some different gearing the speed could be better,I'm not sure if gearing will get you to 40+ mph (at least not without making the truck a pain to keep at a normal operating temp).I'm sure the question "how reliable is the reading from the speed meter" has probably popped into your mind as well,I've read that the meter when tested against a radar gun netted results that were accurate within .2 mph.Now don't get me wrong, regardless of what the VSM says there's no denying that the evader is one fast truck, anyone who owns one will tell you that. The lesson here is don't get too overboard when guesstimating how fast these cars and trucks really go,if you really wanna know....get a VSM for yourself and find out for sure.
